What Wake Forest Bulk Pickup Will Not Take

The Town’s published refusal list covers almost everything a project generates: construction material, remodeling material, move-outs, clean-outs, evictions, car parts and accessories, freon appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, and all electronics.

Hazardous material is refused too, including liquid paint, gasoline, oil, batteries and tires. The Town also reserves the right to reject any collection at the discretion of its Public Works Department, which makes a bulk appointment a plan you cannot fully rely on.

A container on your property is not subject to any of that. The Town’s Public Works department can confirm what your own address is entitled to.

Yard Waste Rules That Send People to a Container

Wake Forest collects yard waste one business day before your trash day, but the limits are specific. Containers must be no more than 45 gallons or 50 pounds, paper bags no more than 50 pounds, and brush has to be loose and unbundled, under 10 inches in diameter and no longer than six feet. Logs over six inches across have to be cut to two feet.

Household volume is capped at eight cubic yards a week, with four feet of clearance from cars, fences and objects and 25 feet overhead. Mulch, dirt, sod, wood chips and soil are not collected at all.

Clear a large lot or take down a mature tree and you are outside those numbers before lunch. The Town’s Solid Waste Manager publishes the current schedule by street.
